A 3000mAh replacement battery can provide much longer runtime, but it is physically larger than the original battery. It does not fit beside every storage device—even when an online listing says the battery is “for iPod Classic.”
Inside an iPod, the battery and storage assembly share a fixed amount of space. Original hard drives and SSD conversions consume more depth than the thin microSD adapters MRG Studio uses for compatible large-battery builds. For that reason, storage must be chosen before battery size in the repair builder.

Why a 3000mAh battery will not fit with the original hard drive
The original 1.8-inch mechanical hard drive is substantially thicker than a microSD flash adapter. In a slim iPod back, it leaves only the space intended for the original-size battery. Trying to stack a large battery beneath or beside the hard drive can place pressure on the display, logic board, drive cable, or back casing.
If you want to keep the original 80GB, 120GB, or thin 160GB hard drive, MRG Studio offers the standard 650mAh replacement. This preserves the physical arrangement Apple designed while replacing an aged battery.
Why an SSD conversion has the same limitation
An SSD conversion may sound thinner because it contains no spinning disk, but the complete assembly includes the SSD and an adapter. In the configurations MRG Studio services, that stack remains too thick to pair safely with the 3000mAh battery under a slim back.
The larger battery is therefore not offered with an SSD upgrade. Customers who want flash storage and maximum battery capacity are better served by a compatible microSD-based adapter.
Storage adapters that leave room for the larger battery
iFlash Quad
The iFlash Quad uses microSD cards and has a thin layout that leaves room for the supported 3000mAh battery. It is a common choice for larger storage builds and is one of the combinations MRG Studio can price directly.
iFlash uDual
The iFlash uDual is also thin enough for the supported large battery. As with every installation, the flex cable, battery cable, insulation, and adapter must be positioned carefully before the back is closed.
Generic microSD adapters
Some popular generic microSD adapters have a layout similar to the iFlash uDual and can work with the larger battery. Others differ in board thickness, connector height, soldering, card position, or protective material. MRG Studio treats an unknown generic adapter as an inspection item rather than assuming it fits.
What happens when the existing adapter is unknown
If you bought a modified iPod or cannot identify the storage inside it, select Another adapter / not sure in the builder. The 3000mAh option may be requested, but the estimate will flag the combination for review.

Slim backs are the standard MRG Studio configuration
MRG Studio currently stocks slim replacement backs. This keeps the builder straightforward and avoids carrying a large inventory of slow-moving thick-back combinations. A thick back can be discussed as a special request, but it is not needed for the supported iFlash Quad, iFlash uDual, and compatible microSD large-battery configurations.
A back that closes only when squeezed is not a successful fit. The case should close normally without forcing the LCD upward, bowing the back, pinching a cable, or compressing the battery.
